How it all works

The Gate Lab is an exclusive member's only community. However, if you're a visitor you can see below how members use the site.

Step 1 - Sign up

To sign up to The Gate Lab you will be required to register your personal details. The Gate Lab operates an "anonymous author" policy where publicly everyone is identified only by their username. Once you have chosen your username and entered your personal details you will be asked to review The Gate Lab's community rules and terms and conditions. It is very important that you read and understand how The Gate Lab works in relation to you, your ideas and other members of the community. Once you have accepted the community rules and terms and conditions your account will be considered for membership.

Step 2 - Plant your idea

Once your account has been approved you can start uploading your ideas. Click on plant an idea and follow the simple instructions to upload your script, document or drawing (including a 200 word pitch) to the site. Once planted, your idea can be viewed and commented on by other members and panel members. As soon as an idea is uploaded to The Gate Lab it is automatically time stamped and is therefore copyright protected. It is advisable to use also include the copyright logo © and date your idea was created in the header or footer.

Step 3 - Manage your ideas

From your profile page you can view and amend all your ideas by clicking the "my ideas" button.

Step 4 - Help other ideas grow

Don't forget to read and support other people's ideas that you like and even those you don't, everyone's views are interesting. "Order ideas by" allows you to quickly search the site by format, genre, type and platform. Once you have read an idea you can leave feedback. The Gate Lab is a collaborative community, the more you comment the more exposure your own ideas will have and the more likely you are to meet like minded writers to collaborate with in the future.

Step 5 - The panel

We have assembled a panel of experienced TV and Film producers whose role is to look at the ideas to provide feedback and guidance. Panel members may help you progress your idea to the point where The Gate Lab may want to option the idea.
